In 1996, our journey at Rushfield Alpacas began with a heart full of compassion and a mission to make a difference. It was the year we rescued our first three alpacas, marking the start of an adventure that would grow into a deep, abiding passion. Nestled in the heart of the lush Leicestershire countryside, our picturesque farm, embraced by rolling hills, became more than just a home for these gentle creatures; it became a sanctuary.
As a family-run business, we’ve poured our love and dedication into creating an environment where our alpacas, now numbering 21, can thrive and enjoy life. Each day, they graze and roam freely, basking in the beauty of their surroundings and the warmth of human interaction. They’ve become not just animals we care for, but members of our extended family, each with their own unique personality and charm.
But our commitment to providing sanctuary extends beyond alpacas. Over the years, our farm has become a haven for a diverse array of animals, including pigs, horses, ponies, ducks, geese, donkeys, and the famous Charolais cows and bulls. Each species has added to the tapestry of life on our farm, creating a rich, vibrant community where animals and humans live in harmony.
Our journey has been one of continuous learning, love, and expansion. From the initial rescue of three alpacas to a thriving family of diverse animals, we’ve embraced each challenge and joy with open hearts. Meet Our Fluffy Faculty:
At Rushfield Alpacas, our team might not hold degrees in finance or marketing, but they’re unparalleled experts in grassology, professional cuddling, and competitive grass-munching. Leading the pack is Sir Fluffy McFluffface, our Head of Snuggles, renowned for his soft fur and expertise in winning hearts. His deputy, Lady Prance-a-Lot, is the queen of the catwalk (or should we say alpaca-walk?), strutting her stuff with elegance and poise that could put top models to shame.
Don’t be fooled by the mischievous twinkle in the eyes of The Great Bambino; he’s our Chief Mischief Maker, always up for a playful chase or an unexpected nuzzle. Keeping everyone in check is Professor Hairy Potter, our sage of the sanctuary, whose wise gaze and calm demeanour inspire peace and harmony among our hairy crew.
And let’s not forget the dynamic duo, Chewbacca and Wooliam Shakespeare, our resident philosophers, often found contemplating the finer points of alfalfa versus grass, or whether a fence is just a suggestion.
